Choosing the right colors for any activity - whether getting your house painted or repainted or painting on a canvas - can decide the overall vibe of the place or artwork. There's also a role of intuition while selecting the color scheme.

When I initially started painting, I would intuitively choose darker colors. It's like I

had something to express through those colors. A few years ago, I would mostly like to wear black or navy blue clothes. Somehow, it made me feel peaceful. Now I like whites and pastels. It also reflects in my art. The colors you like definitely say something about your mood, choices, personality.

On the other hand, colors in your room also affect your mood and how you feel. If you want to feel calmer, try going for lighter shades like whites, beige and neutrals. Dark colors can be calming too in some cases, depending on the undertone one is going for. While choosing colors for your room or house, if lighter shades speak to you, use of a contrasting color minimally will add some freshness to the look. All whites or neutrals are a great choice too, if minimalism interests you.

A lot of people don't like the plainness of it all. Adding a contrasting colors as minimal borders is a good choice. Using an accent wall of a different but complementary color to the rest of the walls will add a unique and vibrant look but will not be overpowering or too much for the eyes.

Even while making art, darker backgrounds sometimes look lovely. But a white background will almost always give your artwork an uplifting and clean vibe. Of course, choice of colors at any point can also reflect what kind of healing a person needs. If you are attracted to blues and greens, your throat chakra and heart chakra might be needing some healing. Similarly, you might be attracted to reds or yellows if lower chakras need to be healed.

A guide to basic colors and what they represent:

  • White: The color of relaxation, purity & innocence

  • Violet: Represents intuition and connection with the divine

  • Green: Represents nature, creativity, unconditional acceptance, balance

  • Blue: The color of relaxation, speaking your truth, self-expression

  • Yellow: Signifies energy, healing, self-esteem

  • Red: Invokes passion, happiness, connection with yourself and life, grounding

  • Orange: The color of joy, energy, optimism

So choose colors according to the feeling you want them to evoke, if choosing for your surroundings. You may be subconsciously drawn to certain colors in your wardrobe. Those are the ones that might actually be aligning with the mood you are in or providing you with the healing you need.
