When you are actively involved in creation, most of the times your upper chakras are more active. The lower chakras, especially the root chakra is what governs how grounded or ungrounded we are in our everyday life.

If we are just flighty and in our thoughts and feelings most of the time, which a lot of creative people face; it becomes tough to be present in the moment. The right thoughts are important and so is productivity but it's equally important be in the here and now, if not more. Sometimes, we might not want to be in the present moment because it's too painful or uncomfortable. So we sometimes use art to escape the now too. Or we like to be in our thoughts; thoughts of worry or any other kind. They make us feel like we are doing something important.

It is essential to enter moments of non-thinking. Creative activities done from this state of mind are often the best and the most relaxing. Sometimes, creativity can also put one in this beautiful, relaxed state. Relaxing the mind is important. A truly, balanced perspective in everything happens when the lower chakras and the higher ones work in unison. Of course, everything working perfectly is not possible all the time and for some people, some chakras will be more active than others because it is designed that way. Still, it helps to take some moments of time to try to regulate and balance our chakras (energies), so we can be more balanced people.

Some activities that might be helpful in grounding:

  • Gardening or staying close to plants in some way

  • Being out in nature, even just gazing at trees or taking in the relaxing feeling being around greenery evokes (helps one feel calmer)

  • Doing basic tasks like household chores (it grounds our energy)

  • Exercising

  • Following routines

  • Praying to a deity or God one feels connected to (it brings thoughts back to the reality and grounds them back into faith, even if for a few minutes)

  • Meditation or just sitting quietly with closed eyes for a few minutes

  • Even dressing well can be grounding (it puts us back in touch with the basics of life)
